Magic Mike” is outstripping the competition.
The Warner Bros. movie about male strippers, starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey, accounted for 61% of advance ticket sales on Fandango on Wednesday. That was the second straight day that the movie was No. 1 in advance ticket sales on the site. On Tuesday, “Magic Mike” accounted for 53% of advance ticket sales.
Although it wasn’t expected to be a major hit at the box office, the Steven Soderbergh-directed film is outselling two of this week’s other wide releases, “Ted” and “Madea’s Witness Protection,” which only accounted for 11% and 4% of advance ticket sales on Wednesday.
Last weekend’s box-office champ “Brave” also only accounted for 11% of advance-ticket sales that day.
"Magic Mike" also sold more tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday than highly-anticipated summer films "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Dark Knight Rises," set to be released in July. The movie’s also outpacing previous summer hits “Bridesmaids” and “Mamma Mia!” at the same point in both films’ sales cycles.
